Krabs gets trapped in Bikini Bottom's new bank. Plankton is in jail, but he teams up with his cellmates to break out, and steal the Krabby Patty formula. Puff tries a new method to try and get SpongeBob to pass his boating test. Squidward finds SpongeBob's diary and reads in front of everyone in the Krusty Krab. SpongeBob returns to the Milkshake Academy after discovering his milkshake license has expired.Ī head injury makes Squidward think he's a baby, and SpongeBob and Patrick must look after him. SpongeBob must take drastic measures when Gary becomes obsessed with his new red ball. Patrick becomes a superhero and plans to clean up Bikini Bottom. Sandy tries to break a number of world records. SpongeBob and Patrick are dying to join Johnny Krill's extreme sports team. As a result, the following season, which was originally intended to premiere in 2014, was delayed to 2016. The biggest reason for this is because the season halted production midway through (between " SpongeBob You're Fired" and " Lost in Bikini Bottom") to complete production on The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. Notably, it is the longest-running season of the show, spanning over the course of over five years, which also makes it the longest-running season of any Nicktoon (or any American cartoon, for that matter).

Prior to this season, only two episodes had been produced in widescreen - " Truth or Square" in Season 6, and " It's a SpongeBob Christmas!" in the previous season. This season marks the show's transition to HD (high definition) by now having all episodes produced in a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9.
